German Peach Cake
This recipe was introduced to a long-time employee of ours, Karen. She treats us to it a time or two every summer at work, and we all fight over it until it's gone! Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (softened)
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4-5 large peaches (peeled and sliced)
- 1-2 tablespoon cinnamon/sugar mixture
- 1 tablespoon butter (cut into small pieces)
Directions
Step 1 | |
Mix the sugar, butter, eggs, flour, baking soda, and vanilla in a large bowl. | |
Step 2 | |
Spread into a greased 9x13 pan. | |
Step 3 | |
Arrange peaches in rows on top. | |
Step 4 | |
Dot with butter. | |
Step 5 | |
Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture. | |
Step 6 | |
Bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes. |
This is almost the same recipe that my grandmother passed down but she called it cinnamon cake and we sprinkle brown sugar on top with cinnamon. We bake it in round cake pans and make it with blueberries, apples or peaches. My husband calls the blueberry version “blueberry pizza”.
