  • What Do You Get With CSA?

Eating seasonally is a delicious challenge. Our farm is about 500 acres and has diversified incredibly over its 70 years – from growing mostly apples, peaches, and tomatoes in our very first years, a deep focus on tree fruits over the next few decades, and over the past twenty years diversifying even more to grow a wide mix of tree fruits, berries, vegetables, and pumpkins. Changing times and changing business has helped drive the need to grow more and different things, and it is certainly what has allowed us to offer what has become a really lovely CSA program that provides you all with a great mix of fruits and vegetables!

Each box is filled with 5-6 farm fresh, seasonal components ranging from apples and pears, to locally grown lettuce and fall squash. We also include our own Honeycrisp Applesauce, FyreFly snitz and fresh pressed apple cider throughout the year.

With each pick-up, you’ll receive a packet filled with yummy recipes. In each recipe, ingredients that are in this week’s share will be bold-faced. Items in recipes marked with an asterisk are also available for sale in the farm market and may be added to your box for an additional charge. If you’d like to add anything to your box, just give us a call or email before you come and we’ll be happy to have it ready for you!

There’s more… we also offer a number of Add-On options for each season. Registrants also have the option of adding an Egg share, Dairy share, or a Bakery share to their CSA. These options are not available without a fruit/vegetable share registration.

Egg Add-On ($40): Participants will receive 1 dozen eggs each week, locally produced by Weikert’s Farms.

Dairy Add-On ($136): Participants will receive their selected ½ gallon of Apple Valley Creamery Milk along with another dairy item (ex. Cheese/butter/cream) each week. Participants will pay a $2/week bottle deposit ($16). Return your bottles to the market, or to any retailer that sells Apple Valley Creamery milk and be refunded $2/bottle at your convenience.

Bakery Add-On ($104): Participants will receive their selected bread along with an additional bakery item – it’s a surprise! – each week.

Fresh Flower Add-On: During the summer CSA program, you can add a fresh flower bouquet to your weekly subscription. With this option, you will receive a beautiful arrangement of flowers cut fresh from our Cut Your Own Flower field.

  • What is CSA?

CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture,” and has a range of definitions. Hollabaugh Bros., Inc. offers several seasonal CSA programs throughout the year, where, subscribers get a crate full of in-season fresh fruits, veggies, and other locally produced goods. Why a CSA? They’re good for everyone! They give you, the consumer, better control over your food and its quality and nutritional values. They give us, the farmer, guaranteed support to maintain our farmland, which of course then supports the local economy! It’s a win-win all around. When you buy into a CSA, you buy into the philosophy that you’re accepting the same risks a farmer takes on each season. If a late freeze destroys the crop, you won’t necessarily receive such a bountiful supply of fruits and vegetables in your boxes. On the other hand, if we have a bumper crop, participants will enjoy the bounty of the harvest for the duration of the CSA! It’s like playing “The Game of Life”, farmer style! Because of our diverse farm and many local partnerships, we guarantee you’ll always get something, even if the going does get tough on the farm!

    Why Hollabaugh’s CSA?

    • Hollabaugh Bros., Inc. is a three-generation, family-owned and operated fruit and vegetable farm growing on 500 acres of fertile farmland in Upper Adams County, PA outside of Biglerville. We’ve been growing fruits and vegetables since 1955.
    • Diversity! Unlike many (most!) other CSA programs, our diverse farm offers a wide mix of fruits and vegetables. The complaint we hear most often from customers who participate in other farms’ CSA programs is that they get week after week of leafy greens – kale, spinach, lettuce, etc. – and they get sick of the same thing all the time. Between our diverse offerings from our farm itself and our partnership with many other local farms, our CSA members can be assured they will never have the chance to get sick of anything.
    • A connection to, and behind the scenes look at, a farming family. Weekly emails sent to CSA members share what’s going on at the farm and in the business to take a deeper dive into the challenges, and rewards, of farming in this day and age.
    • Recipes and information about each week’s box. Never again will you look in a box and have no clue what vegetable you’re looking at or how you eat it. While we do try to offer exciting and unique produce, we will always tell you what it is, how to eat it, how to store it, and share some delicious recipes you could try.
    • A connection to the rest of our store. It’s one-stop shopping!
